A day out with Steve

Last week Nick received a phone call from a lady called Gloria, she had heard about the 'Buddy' system through her husbands social worker, as she lived not far from me Nick passed the details to me.

Steve has altzheimers, his spacial awareness and memory are far from how they should be and as a result of this he has been unable to go fishing for the last few years. So I arranged to take him fishing yesterday.

I picked him up at around 9am and he seemed very excited about his day out, in actual fact he was an all round nice guy. I had decided to take him to Strattons Farm near Wisbech as having fished the lake a couple of time I knew he had a great chance of catching a few nice fish, and I'm sure after a couple of years without fishing Steve wanted to do the same.

Strattons Farm have also agreed that Dave and I can use the lake to 'Buddy' people free of charge. A huge thank you to Dave for sorting that out and John the owner for allowing us to do that.

The weather was not the best with a heavily overcast sky and a stong wind blowing but with his help all the tackle was taken to our swims and we set up.



Soon after setting up I was hitting a few small roach and skimmer to about the 1lb mark, but Steve was having trouble getting a bite. Whilst we had a cup of tea I asked if it was OK to check his set up and with a few minor changes made he cast out again resulting in a small roach of abot 6oz, from there on in the bites came frequently resulting in plenty of roach and bream including this lump of about 4lb



I certainly enjoyed my day with Steve and I think he did as his parting comment to me was "Dispite me having no short term memory, I will never forget today."

Well done Claire for making it happen again for somebody.
The Buddy System has made a difference to quite a few people now.

I know I have been quiet for a while but I am doing lots behind the scenes at the moment and hoping to be able to announce some good news in the very near future.
